Beyoncé Is Now Worth $800 Million (2024)

Following her record-setting Renaissance tour, Queen B is well on her way to becoming a billionaire.

“It should cost a billion to look this good,” Beyoncé sings on “Pure/Honey” from her 2022 album, Renaissance. Given the stellar year the 42-year-old entertainer has had, money doesn’t appear to be a problem—she is now on a glidepath to becoming a billionaire, with a net worth of $800 million, Forbes estimates.

In June, Beyoncé ranked No. 48 on Forbes’ annual list of the richest self-made women in America, with a net worth of $540 million. The dramatic boost to her fortune can be attributed to her substantial 2023 earnings—she banked an estimated $100 million (post-tax) from the Renaissance World Tour—as well as an adjustment to Forbes’ estimate of her music catalog and her art collection. Sources tell Forbes the singer’s catalog is now worth some $300 million. The remainder of her net worth is made up of the personal assets she shares with her billionaire husband, Jay-Z, as well as her business holdings through Parkwood Entertainment, which she founded in 2010. (Representatives for Beyoncé did not respond to Forbes’ request for comment.)

One of the major drivers to the increase to Beyoncé’s net worth was her blockbuster Renaissance tour, which ran from May to October and spanned 39 cities in 17 countries. Renaissance brought in more than $579 million in revenue, making it one of the top 10 highest-grossing tours in history, according to Billboard.

“She’s one of the music gods,” IAG chairman Dennis Arfa, who represents acts including Billy Joel and Metallica, tells Forbes. “The business she does, and the amount of people that she draws, that she can do a movie on her own. She can do things most can’t.”

For Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé, the movie based on the concert tour, she reportedly struck a similar deal with AMC Theaters that Taylor Swift did for her Eras Tour movie. Forgoing studio participation, Beyoncé released the film—which she also wrote, produced and directed—through AMC, meaning she will split the revenue directly. Renaissance grossed $27.4 million worldwide in its opening weekend, earning the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office, though it still lagged Swift’s opening weekend box-office haul of $123.5 million.

And while Beyoncé and Swift were set up to be rivals throughout the year, they have actually supported one another. Swift attended the London premiere of Renaissance, after Beyoncé attended her Eras theater debut weeks prior. The “Cruel Summer” singer had her own monster year—Forbes determined in October that Swift became a billionaire after she netted $190 million (post-taxes) from the Eras tour. Beyoncé is “such a great disrupter of music-industry norms,” Swift recently told Time. “She taught every artist how to flip the table and challenge archaic business practices.”

Breaking norms is what has made Beyoncé so successful, says Carter Gregory, vice president of A&R at Capitol Records: “You can point to so many moments in her career when she’s done something and moved the industry forward.” In 2013, for instance, Beyoncé famously dropped her self-titled visual album with no warning and no promotion. “She’s an artist that will never take ‘no’ as an answer and will always find a way to continue to push the envelope in a way that no one else is doing.”

Not that others aren’t trying. With Beyoncé and Swift at the forefront, women dominated the music industry this year. Katy Perry sold her stakes in her master recordings royalties and publishing rights in September for a reported $225 million, increasing her a net worth to $340 million. Meanwhile, SZA earned 15 Grammy nominations this year, more than any artist, and even Barbie earned 11 Grammy nods.

“Beyoncé is big business,” Arfa notes, “She’s a tremendous force in our industry. Whatever she does is very important and very relevant.” Her management and production company, Parkwood Entertainment, for example, includes acts like Chloe x Halle on its roster. Halle Bailey, the younger of the two sisters, had a phenomenal 2023, starring in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid and the remake of The Color Purple.

But it wasn’t all good news for Beyoncé. In March, her athleisure brand Ivy Park ended its five-year partnership with Adidas, as the Wall Street Journal reported, because the line missed sales projections by $200 million in 2022—though she still received $20 million in annual compensation.

That same month, however, she collaborated on a collection with French fashion house Balmain on Renaissance Couture. And in November, she launched her perfume, Cé Noir, which sells on her website for $160.

Beyond music and fashion, Beyoncé shares an extensive real estate portfolio with Jay-Z worth some $320 million, including a $200 million Malibu mansion the couple purchased in June, believed to be the most expensive home in California history. Forbes allocates half the total value of their shared real estate, as well as half the value of their extensive art collection, to each entertainer.

And while Forbes values her personal assets at $800 million, what that number really adds up to is freedom. “I feel liberated.” Beyoncé says in the Renaissance movie. “I have nothing to prove to anyone at this point, and I’ve allowed myself to just be free.”
